This self-paced training is designed to improve teachers’ and school staff’s knowledge and raise their awareness and understanding of substance misuse in school settings, how to prevent it, and how to support students affected by it.

This training consists of six modules where you will learn about:

Module 1: Define alcohol and drug misuse and its relevance and prevalence statistics in Nigerian school settings.

Module 2: Identify common types of drugs and substances abused.

Module 3: Identify risk factors that predispose students to alcohol and drug misuse.

Module 4: Recognising early signs, symptoms, and behavioural indicators of substance misuse in students (physical, psychological, and social).

Module 5: Effect of alcohol and drug misuse on health and learning.

Module 6: The role of teachers in early detection, referral, and support of students at risk of substance abuse.

Each module contains video training and quizzes to test your knowledge of the topic. Trainings may contain additional texts to read and scenarios for you to reflect on.

To pass this course, you must score 80% on the quiz, after which you will receive a free certificate of participation.
